After Big Initiatory Experiences Like Ibogaine, Iboga, Ayahuasca, Psilocybin

The first two weeks after a major entheogenic journey are sacred—and delicate. Returning to the familiar too soon can undo what the medicine has just begun.

The Liminal Phase: A Threshold, Not a Return

Ibogaine initiates what we call a liminal state—a time of transition between who one was and who one is becoming. It’s not recovery, and it’s not yet integration. It is a deep reorganization of the psyche, nervous system, and identity. Think of it like spiritual open-heart surgery. The work isn’t over when the medicine wears off—it’s only just begun.

In this phase, the person who has just emerged from their ibogaine treatment is emotionally porous, neurologically fragile, and spiritually raw. They are deeply sensitive to energy, to tone, to memory, to anything familiar—especially family systems.” Excerpted from Anders Beatty’s article Understanding the first two weeks after ibogaine.

Physiological and Neurological Reset

Although ibogaine takes away 85-90% of withdrawals and scrubs the receptors in your brain to a pristine state, you might still be experiencing lack of energy, sleeplessness, and nausea in the first few days after treatment. Insomnia can take 6-8 weeks to taper off. In addition there may be a psychological disbelief that you won’t need a fix. This incredulity combined with the mild withdrawal symptoms make the first week after ibogaine a danger zone, until it dawns on you that you really are not craving these substances.

What to Expect

A comfortable private room and bathroom at our retreat in Mexico with three meals and access to guidance, nature, swimming pool and steam room.

Three organic whole food home-cooked meals, options include fresh green juices and smoothies, PH9 water.

A signed agreement affirming that you will not consume certain substances while in Aftercare as well as accept 24/7 supervision when going outside. (applies to addiction clients)

Cleanse & Release Tools– coffee enema, colon hydrotherapy, epsom salts bath soaks, steam room, hot tub, massage, herbal shots, vitamin/mineral infusions or naturopathic sleep aids.

Booster doses, if recommended by your clinic, accompanied by music and meditation or silence.

A conversation about other entheogenic journeys you might want to experience down the road with plant medicines like ayahuasca, psilocybin, cannabis, 5me0, san pedro – these substances are non-addictive and can provide safer ways to alter your consciousness without using harmful drugs or poorly tested new analogs.

A zoom or in-person review of your post-ibogaine blood panel with Sadie Kaufman’s Metabolic Method including nutritional recommendations targeted at improving organ function, ease detox, and improve elimination.

No rules, just right. If you want space and need to just catch up on sleep for a few days you can do that. If you want engagement, someone will always be at hand.

Group Collage Visioning Workshop with your facilitators to co-create a Life Plan. AI image generation tools available.

We teach you nutritional, philosophical, and life skills to integrate the transformation unfurling in you, initiated by ibogaine, but requiring you to step in as the healer of yourself, the initiate.

The Return Home

When the individual returns home he or she will have hopefully a sense of being rested and renewed, and a vision for their future, or at least next steps. They’ll also have a custom document that outlines a set of Return Home Agreements and time commitments that they are agreeing to keep and that their integration coach will hold them accountable for during the nine months following.

The week after return, the cohort will regroup online for the nine-month Journey of Rebirth Mystery School, a nine month program with admission to any live classes and recorded material, as well as access to the community of peers, mentors, and masters on Awake.net.
